40th Street Bridge Detour

Until Further Notice

Due to structural conditions on the 40th Street Bridge, the City of Philadelphia Streets Department put weight restrictions into effect on January 8, 2007. All trips on Routes 38 and 40 will operate with long-term detours.

Westbound buses will operate on Parrish St then to 41st St, Mantua, 42nd St, Girard, and 41st St before returning to regular routing at Parkside Ave.
Eastbound buses will operate via normal route to Belmont Avenue and 41st Street then 41st St., to Girard Ave, Girard Avenue to 42nd Street, Westminster Avenue, 40th Street to Brown Street, then regular routing.

Customers traveling to and from points north of the 40th St Bridge to University City and 40th & Market can expect additional travel time of up to 10 minutes depending on time of day and traffic conditions. Signs will be posted at all discontinued and at new, extended detour bus stops for Routes 38 and 40.

These detours will continue until work is completed to rebuild the 40th Street Bridge.
