ENERGY ACTION PLAN BACKGROUND

"80 x 50" Framework
The 2017 Energy Action Plan's emissions reduction targets are based on a goal to reduce GHG emissions by 80 percent by 2050, a target that has become widely accepted and adopted in the United States by cities like Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, and Denver. The "80 x 50" framework is intended to mitigate the effects on climate change on a municipal level. SEPTA will track emission reductions against the "80 x 50" goal to better enable the Authority to monitor emission reduction progress.

The 2017 Energy Action Plan is a strategy for the next 10 years of progress towards achieving SEPTA's "80 x 50" emissions reduction goal.

Supporting SEP-TAINABLE 2020
The energy consumption and GHG emissions reduction goals outlined in the 2017 Energy Action Plan are pursuant to SEPTA's Sustainability Program's, Board-adopted SEP-TAINABLE 2020 framework. Both the 2017 Energy Action Plan and SEP-TAINABLE 2020 track GHG emissions resulting from vehicles and facilities.
