Research & Statistics

SEPTA plays an integral part in keeping the Philadelphia region moving and, in doing so, driving the region's economic growth. Here's a look at SEPTA by the numbers:

6th largest transit system in the nation

Service region covers 2,184 square miles

More than 2,600 buses, trolleys, subway cars, trains and paratransit vehicles in operation

Provides more than 300 million trips annually

Serves 70 percent of Center City office workers

Traveled more than 90 million miles last year

The new fare payment system is designed to make each of the more than 300 million annual trips more convenient and hassle-free than ever before. This transformational initiative will help establish SEPTA not only as one of the nation's largest transit systems but also one of the nation's most progressive.

And SEPTA riders have been a big part in shaping these developments. More than 4,000 riders and stakeholders have been involved in planning for the new fare collection system, voicing their feedback through surveys, focus groups, and advisory sessions.
