Papal Visit Service | REGIONAL RAIL INFORMATION

PREPARATIONS & WEEKEND INFORMATION FOR THE PAPAL VISIT

Preparations for the Papal Visit Parkway events will require the alteration of Regional Rail service and the early closure of select SEPTA Transit and Regional Rail Stations as follows:

Monday, September 21 - Friday, September 25, 2015

Beginning Monday, September 21st and continuing through Friday, September 25th, select parking spaces at the 18 stations open during the Papal Visit Weekend may be unavailable for customer use . These spots will be blocked off and notices posted. Additionally, these 18 stations will CLOSE at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25th to facilitate preparation for service Saturday morning. Any cars remaining in these lot will be relocated. Please look for signs. In consideration for any inconvenience customers may encounter parking will be free at these 18 stations on Friday the 25th. Regular parking fees will apply at all other SEPTA parking locations on the 25th

Regular fares will apply for travel on SEPTA Regional Rail on September 25, 2015

With the extraordinary number of people expected to attend events during the Papal Visit, SEPTA will be more than doubling Regional Rail service capacity on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, 2015.

SERVICE OPTIONS

On these dates, trains will ONLY operate from 18 stations - ALL OTHER REGIONAL RAIL STATIONS WILL BE CLOSED. ONLY customers traveling with either a Special One Day Regional Rail Pass or Special One Day Regional Rail Reduced Fare Pass, with the name of the station stamped on the back, will be eligible to travel.

In the AM, service will operate from the designated outlying stations to Center City beginning at 5:30 a.m. and continuing until 12 Noon. To help alleviate congestion and enhance safe travel, we will have two Travel Time Slots for each station (except at Croydon/Cornwells Heights):

5:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon
Cornwells Heights Station - 5:30 a.m.- 8:30 a.m. ONLY
Croydon Station - 8:30 a.m. - 12 Noon ONLY

FARE PURCHASE OPTIONS

SEPTA Sales Agents will be set up at Terminal bridges A - D (9.26 for passengers arriving
at Philadelphia International Airport)
Agents will sell all SEPTA fare products including One Day Regional Rail Passes - Valid 9.26 & 9.27
Debit, credit and cash will be accepted

Bicycles NOT permitted on trains 9.26/9.27

Customer Staging Zones will be set up at each Station. Customers arriving, during their designated travel time slot, will be grouped, on a first come-first served basis. Each staging zone will represent a train and everyone inside a zone, with a valid Special One Day Regional Rail pass, will get on the train. Each zone will have a sign indicating the approximate wait time and approximate travel time to Center City.

Travel Tip: Check the map to see walking distance from your arrival station to Francis Festival and Parkway event destinations


In the PM, return service from Center City will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the last scheduled trains leaving at 12:30 a.m. You will board your train home at the same station where you arrived in the AM.

NO service will operate from Center City to Outlying Stations during the AM travel period or from Outlying Stations to Center City during the PM travel period.

Parking at SEPTA Stations will be very limited and in some instances not available during the Papal Visit Weekend but SEPTA and the Municipalities surrounding these stations have been working together to identify more than 32,000 spaces of off-site parking within reasonable walking distance of a given station. Some of these lots will be free and some may charge a fee for parking. Individual maps for each station are available here that include interactive information about parking, area road closures, and station information. Additional information on vehicle size and type restrictions, restrictions on overnight parking, as well as the time when customers may begin parking at SEPTA lots on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 will also be posted, so please check back for additional information.

Travel Tip: Arranging to be dropped off and picked up at an outlying station will be your best option

FARES & FARE PAYMENT

EVERYONE using Regional Rail during the Papal Visit Weekend, including Children over the age of 5 must have a Special One Day Regional Rail Pass for each day of travel - Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. No other SEPTA fares - tickets, weekly, monthly or Independence Passes, or cash - will be accepted.

Travel from Wilmington Station:

Beginning Thursday, September 17, customers can purchase One Day Regional Rail Passes for Travel from Wilmington at Wilmington Station during weekday sales office hours and from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20.

Customers may purchase up to 10 Passes, including 1 Reduced Fare Pass, per transaction. ALL SPECIAL REGIONAL RAIL ONE DAY PASSES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Reduced Fare Passes can be purchased without proof of eligibility but customers are reminded they must present the proper credentials (Photo ID plus one of the following -- valid Medicare Card, PA Disability Transit ID, or PA Senior Citizen Transit ID to be eligible to ride.

The Special One Day Regional Rail Pass will be the only SEPTA fare accepted for travel during the Papal Visit Weekend and all Passes must be purchased in advance for travel from the Station location stamped on the back of the Pass.

Travel Tip: When you receive your Special One Day Regional Rail pass (passes) check the back to confirm the correct station name is stamped on the back of the pass. That will be the ONLY station location where the pass will be accepted


GENERAL NOTES

The 18 Regional Rail Stations shown on the list are the ONLY locations offering train service. All other Regional Rail Stations will be CLOSED. Please remember to stay out of active track areas as there will still be trains in operation

Gallery Closing: The Gallery will be closed on Friday, September 25 at 5 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday, September 28 at 12 p.m. SEPTA customers can access Jefferson Station at 10th St., 11th St., or 12th St. entrances. Please note, on September 26 and September 27, only the following Regional Rail Lines will be operating at Jefferson Station: Airport, Fox Chase, Lansdale/Doylestown, Manayunk/Norristown, Warminster, West Trenton

Fare collection for both Regional Rail and Transit will occur at the start of your trip (AM travel to Center City). Regional Rail customers with a Special One Day Regional Rail Pass will present it for inspection and validation by SEPTA Personnel Regional Rail. Customers with a Special One Day Regional Rail Reduce Fare Pass will present it, along with a photo ID and a valid Medicare Card or PA Disability Transit ID, for inspection and validation by SEPTA Personnel
