SEPTA Key Early Adopters Update

The goal of the SEPTA Key Early Adopters program was to offer up to 10,000 Transit riders the opportunity to get a Key Card and purchase either a Weekly or Monthly TransPass.

Customer interest in our new fare payment program has been great. We have reached the limit on the allotment of Key Cards available for first purchase of Passes. No new Key Cards will be available as part of the Early Adopters program effective Friday, July 1, 2016.

This is not the end of the Early Adopters program and we encourage riders with Key Cards to continue to use them to reload their Passes and tap at the fareboxes and turnstile to pay their fare to ride on ALL SEPTA Transit routes including:

  • Buses*
  • Trolleys (Routes 10, 11, 13, 15, 34, 36, 101, & 102)
  • Trackless Trolleys
  • Market Frankford Line
  • Broad Street Line/Broad Ridge Spur
  • Norristown High Speed Line*


*Customers using the TransPass on their SEPTA Key Card who Bus Routes 123, 124, 125, 150 or the Norristown High Speed Line must pay the additional fare (exact change only).

The Fare Kiosks at the 12 Early Adopter Stations plus the Fare Kiosks and SEPTA Sales Office in the lobby at 1234 Market Street will continue to be the locations for walk up transactions. Early Adopters can also call the Key Customer Call Center at 855-567-3782 or go online to the Key ecommerce website (www.septakey.org) to reload Passes.

Please remember, if you are an Early Adopter - don't throw out your Key Card. It can be loaded and reloaded with a new Pass product.

Starting on Friday, July 1st, Customers using the Fare Kiosks will notice the only icon on the Welcome screen will be the prompt to tap their Key Card at the reader directly below the screen. Once you tap at the contactless chip card reader you can continue your Pass purchase transaction using cash, credit card or debit card.

We want to thank our Early Adopters for helping SEPTA launch the Key Program. The feedback and comments received in the first 2 1/2 weeks have offered valuable suggestions and identified areas where we want to add information including tips on how to use the Card and registering a Key Card on the ecommerce website. We hope that you will continue to share your experiences and thoughts through the Feedback form.

We will continue to provide updates on the Early Adopters program and future rollout phases of the Key Card program.
