SEPTA Reaps Bountiful Harvest for Philabundance

Customers and Staff Contribute 29,000 Meals for Philabundance

December 04, 2015

SEPTA's generous customers and employees have come through once again for their neighbors in need. More than 14,000 pounds of food - or 14,000 meals for Philabundance and its member agencies - were collected during the Authority's two-week "Stop Hunger at Your Station" food drive. Monetary gifts of almost $7,900 received during the food drive mean an additional 15,000 meals for residents served by Philabundance and its member agencies.

Since 2009, SEPTA customers and employees have donated more than 123,500 pounds of food. With monetary contributions of over $45,000, SEPTA customers and employees have given the equivalent of more than 214,400 meals over the course of the drive's seven-year history.

"I am thankful for the generosity of our riders and proud of our employees who go above and beyond every year to help Philabundance feed our neighbors in need," said SEPTA General Manager Jeff Knueppel. "The results of the food drive demonstrate that SEPTA is more than a transportation organization. We care about the community we serve."

During the food drive, held October 19-November 2, SEPTA collected donations of canned goods at 43 designated stations throughout the transit system. A specially wrapped "Stop Hunger at Your Station" SEPTA bus toured the region throughout the food drive, collecting items such as peanut butter, jelly, canned pasta and tuna.

Philabundance is the Greater Philadelphia region's largest hunger-relief organization. In 2014, Philabundance distributed 30 million pounds of food across the Delaware Valley.
