SEPTA Reminds Customers Token Sales End April 30

Customers Urged to Make Switch to SEPTA Key

April 27, 2018

PHILADELPHIA (April 27, 2018) - SEPTA would like to remind customers that token sales will end at all Authority-owned locations on Monday, April 30. Token sales have been gradually phased out since January, as more customers transition to the SEPTA Key Card.

SEPTA will continue to accept purchased tokens for the foreseeable future, so customers will not lose money they have already spent on tokens. Customers are reminded that tokens can be loaded onto Key cards, with the value added to the Travel Wallet that allows for convenient tap-and-go travel.

Tokens will continue to be sold in bulk to social service agencies beyond April 30, as work continues to implement a new method for these organizations to provide SEPTA fares to their clients. In addition, SEPTA CCT Paratransit customers will be able to purchase tokens after April 30 at Center City sales locations with a valid SEPTA CCT identification card. Some third-party retailers will also continue to sell tokens to the general public beyond April 30, although these locations will eventually be replaced by the SEPTA Key External Retail Network, which currently includes more than 200 locations.

Customers who are still using tokens and legacy TransPasses are urged to make the switch to the SEPTA Key. It provides the same fare payment methods and discounts, but with added convenience and benefits including:

  • One Card that can be loaded and reloaded with the SEPTA Transit fare of your choice
    • Weekly/Monthly TransPass, One Day Convenience Pass
    • Put money in the Card Travel Wallet and ride as you do today using tokens and transfers
  • Protection against loss or theft when you register your Key Card
  • Options to purchase fares at SEPTA sales offices, transit station/bus loop Fare Kiosks, online at www.septakey.org, and through locations that are part of the External Retail Network.
