Jolly Trolleys With Festive Holiday Decor Greet Passengers

'Tis the season' to decorate with lights, garland, tinsel, and other ornaments reflecting the holiday spirit. Even trolleys are spreading cheer this season, as they travel through neighborhoods festively festooned in eager anticipation of the season of giving.

Trolley operator Gary Mason has been decorating his trolley for nearly 20 years. "Decorating the trolleys allows us to personally share the season with our customers. It's not just the wreath; I spend a lot of time on the lights inside and outside. It really makes it stand out. I also get into the spirit and put on the Santa hat. You should see the looks we get from people. The smiles are infectious." Operator Wendolus Hart, is new to decorating his trolley. "We really have fun getting the trolleys dressed up. This is my first year decorating and I like to try to be original for the passengers."

During the holiday season riders will see select trolleys colorfully adorned. Trolley Routes 10, 11, 13, 15, 34, and 36, which run through the city, and suburban trolley Routes 101 (Media), 102 (Sharon Hill), and Norristown High Speed Line (Route 100) all feature trolleys which bring cheer to gift laden passengers.

The decorated trolleys have always been a much welcomed treat for passengers. Regular rider Ariel Ben-Amos noted in a recent e-mail, "It was such a pleasant surprise. It put everybody on the trolley in a nice holiday spirit." Clint Randall couldn't help but notice the trolleys coming from work in Center City. "I was astounded at 15th Street Station when the Route 34 trolley turned the corner covered in twinkling lights and sparkly made my day more than anything I can remember this holiday season."

Operator Gary Mason looks forward to decorating his Route 10 trolley for the holiday season.
