SEPTA Bus Routes 12 and 40 To Be Detoured From The South Street Bridge Due To Construction

January 18, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA  — SEPTA will detour bus Routes 12 and 40 starting Monday, January 22 due to the closure and reconstruction of the South Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River and Expressway.

Instead of operating over the bridge, Route 12 westbound morning buses will detour via Walnut Street, 34th Street and Civic Center Boulevard, before returning to regular routing. Eastbound afternoon and evening bus service will travel via 33rd, Chestnut, 23rd, and South streets before continuing on regular routing.

On Route 40, westbound service will operate via Lombard, 22nd, Walnut, 34th, and Spruce streets before returning to regular routing. The eastbound detour will travel via Spruce, 33rd, Chestnut, 23rd and South streets and then return to regular routing.

Route 40 riders should be aware that detours are currently in effect further west as similar reconstruction has already begun on the 40th Street Bridge in West Philadelphia.

These detours will continue until bridge reconstruction is completed and riders should look for new bus schedules in February 2007 with revised trip times.
