Highway-Railroad Grade Crossing Project Begins in Lansdale

August 23, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - SEPTA will install a new highway-railroad grade crossing at Hancock Street in Lansdale along the R5 Lansdale-Doylestown regional rail line. As a result, Hancock Street will be closed at the railroad crossing periodically until 4 p.m. on Monday, August 27.

Hancock Street will be closed from approximately 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on August 23 so crews can prepare the location for weekend work. The weekend work is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 24 and will tentatively conclude at 4 p.m. on Monday, August 27 when Hancock Street is reopened for vehicular traffic.

Traffic will be detoured while work is underway and signs will be posted to direct vehicles through the area during construction. Local traffic will be able to access Hancock Street up to the railroad crossing, but will not be able to cross the tracks.

When the project is complete, motorists traveling through the crossing will experience a smoother ride due to the removal of defects in the road and the installation of pre-cast concrete. The pre-cast concrete will also provide a more durable surface that resists corrosion from salt, temperature changes and heavy vehicle loads.

Although vehicular traffic may experience delays during the construction, SEPTA will operate normal R5 Lansdale-Doylestown train service during the project.

Information on all SEPTA service is available online or by telephone at (215) 580-7800.
