COVID-19 Positive Employee Update

SEPTA is working closely with our employees, unions and public health officials to monitor and address health issues associated with COVID-19. We are proactively implementing measures to protect the safety of our customers and our employees, and that includes making information available when one of our employees has tested positive for the virus.

We will continue to notify employees at the affected sites and provide continual updates on our website regarding SEPTA employees who have tested positive. Some of the employees listed below work in customer facing positions

At no time will a SEPTA employee with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis ever continue to be at work or have contact with customers and co-workers while ill. We have procedures in place to sanitize and deep clean any work area/equipment that might have been used by such an employee as well as a notification system to inform workplace colleagues, particularly those who worked in close proximity to the individual prior to a confirmed virus diagnosis.

Confirmed Cases:

April 2, 2020
Four additional employees informed SEPTA that they tested positive today. Two employees work in 103 Victory EM&C Suburban Offices, one works at Roberts Yard and one works at Callowhill Depot.

April 1, 2020

Six additional employees informed SEPTA that they tested positive today. These employees each work at Elmwood Depot, Overbrook Shop, Fernrock Transportation Center, Comply Depot and on the Market Frankford line, and on Surface Transportation.

March 31, 2020

Three additional employees informed SEPTA that they tested positive today. Two of these employees work in the Control Center, and one employee works in Information Technology.

March 30, 2020

Two additional employees have notified SEPTA they have tested positive for COVID-19. One of these employees works in the Legal Department and one works on Regional Rail.

March 29, 2020

Six additional employees have notified SEPTA they have tested positive for COVID-19. They work at the Comly Depot, the Norristown High Speed Line Shop, Frankford Transportation Center, on the Market-Frankford Line, at Allegheny Depot and the Elmwood Depot.

March 27, 2020

SEPTA was notified today that two employees have tested positive for COVID-19. One of those employees works out of the Elmwood Trolley Depot, and the other works at Southern Depot.

March 26, 2020

Over the past several days three SEPTA employees have tested positive for COVID-19. One of these employees works at the Control Center, one at the Elmwood Shop and one at the Midvale shop.

SUBURBAN & JEFFERSON STATION ENTRANCES
CLOSURE TIME CHANGE


Starting April 2 at 9:00 p.m., the ONLY entrances at Suburban and Jefferson Stations OPEN for SEPTA Regional Rail customers to enter/exit the Station will be:

Suburban Station:

  • 17th & JFK (stairs and elevator)
  • 15th & Market Sts

Jefferson Station:

  • 10th & Filbert (stairs and elevator)


ALL OTHER STAIRWAYS AND ENTRANCES AT THESE STATIONS WILL BE CLOSED, AT ALL TIMES

THESE CHANGES WILL BE IN EFFECT 7 DAYS A WEEK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Credit Policy For SEPTA Transportation Passes

SEPTA is offering credits for unused and partially used Monthly March or April 2020 Passes and Weekly Passes for the Weeks of March 9th & March 16th (including those on Key Cards and University Semester Paper Legacy Passes).

Overnight service will be suspended on the Market Frankford and Broad Street Lines between 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. All other times, the Saturday schedule will be in effect. These changes will be in effect 7 days a week.

Please note: MFL/BSL Owl service will not operate during service suspension hours

Customer Service Contact Center Hours

Due to the impact of COVID-19, effective March 30, 2020, the SEPTA Customer Service. Contact Center hours of operation will change to Monday through Friday 7am - 5pm. Weekend hours will be remain in place.

Customer Service Contact Center Hours

Due to the impact of COVID-19, effective March 24, 2020, the SEPTA Customer Service

Contact Center hours of operation will change to Monday through Friday 6am - 7pm. Weekend hours will be remain in place.

COVID-19 Same Day CCT Requests

Beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2020, registered CCT Customers (ADA/Shared Ride) may make same-day reservations to/from medical facilities, pharmacies, supermarkets, and food distribution centers. These trips will be provided on a space available basis until further notice. To make a same day trip, you may contact the CCT Control Center at 215-580-7720 or 215-580-7145 then press #2. Standard fares will apply.

SEPTA Parking Update

Garages

SEPTA will be suspending operations at its parking garage facilities at Norristown and Lansdale Stations, effective midnight, Monday, March 23, 2020. Exits will remain open for 24 hours to allow customers to remove vehicles parked in the garages. Surface lots parking will remain available at both the Norristown & Lansdale Regional Rail Stations.

The parking garage at Frankford Transportation will Center remain operational.

Monthly Parking Permits

SEPTA is temporarily suspending the provision that requires customers to purchase a Parking Permit each month to maintain their eligibility. Persons eligible in April will remain eligible once travel restrictions are lifted.

Customers who purchased an April Parking Permit will receive their May Monthly Parking Permit free of charge. Should travel restrictions be extended, a complimentary Monthly Permit will be provided for a future month. It is not necessary to return your unused April Parking Permit. The option to purchase a Monthly Parking Permit at a Regional Rail Ticket office is also suspended until further notice.

All Transit service (Bus, Trolley, Trackless Trolley, Market Frankford, Broad Street, Norristown High Speed Lines) begin operating on a Saturday schedule. This timetable will be in effect 7 days a week, until further notice.

Temporary Closure of Regional Railroad Station Ticket Windows & Waiting Rooms

Following the health recommendations for social distancing, we are temporarily closing the Ticket Windows & Waiting Rooms at ALL outlying Regional Rail Stations beginning Friday, March 20

Fares will continue to be available for purchase at the five Center City Station Ticket Offices and the SEPTA Key Fare Kiosks at these stations

Until further notice, all cash fares paid on board trains for travel from an Outlying Station, will be at the reduced Weekend/Evening rate

Limited Access to All SEPTA Buildings
With a commitment to do our part to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, and continuing until further notice, access to all SEPTA Office Buildings including our headquarters at 1234 Market Street will be restricted to only those individuals with assigned workspace in these facilities. Status

As the health professionals predicted, the number of individuals in the US infected with the virus continues to grow. In addition to other states in the country, there are now confirmed cases in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

For up to date status of the COVID-19 situation, continue to follow the Federal, State and Local Health Department Websites. This week we are adding additional resource links for you - the website for the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health https://www.phila.gov/departments/department-of-public-health/, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health https://www.health.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspx These agencies continue to post information on COVID-19 and you may want to go there for news with a local perspective. We also recommend visiting the Centers for Disease Control website (www.cdc.gov) for more nationally focused news and updates.

COVID-19 is a health situation that everyone should take seriously and we need to be prepared in the event there is an increase in confirmed reports within the SEPTA service region. Right now, most of all, we encourage everyone to remain calm and follow the good hygiene practices recommended to prevent respiratory illnesses, flu, and colds at work and at home.

Communications

We will continue to provide periodic updates on SEPTA's Website. There is a link on the homepage of www.septa.org and we would ask customers to go to our website to learn about what SEPTA is doing to respond to the virus.

We are also using all of the digital screens at station entrances, platform areas, and on vehicles to remind riders about proper Passenger Etiquette and the role they play in maintaining a clean and healthy system.

SEPTA continues to coordinate with local/regional partners including the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health, peer transit organizations along the Northeast Corridor and we recently joined an information sharing group made up of Offices of Emergency Management and Public Health Officials in the five county region.

Operational Plans

While there have been some cases in our five county region, SEPTA continues to provide our regular service on all modes.

SEPTA continues to update our service modification plans. We are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

Germ control and cleaning management on our system is nothing new to SEPTA. We have always had an extensive station and vehicle cleaning program. In addition to this robust cleaning program, SEPTA has beefed up our regular Station and Vehicle cleaning efforts. Last week we established dedicated teams to focus on sterilizing high touch areas at stations and on vehicles. The stations team will be out at least 3 to 4 times a day. This is in addition to our regular cleaning and night time station wash down operations. The Vehicle Maintenance team is accelerating the regular bus and rail car house cleaning program. As buses come back to their district they are getting interior wipe downs. Additionally, we have custodians assigned to major transportation centers to wipe down vehicles when they are on layover. As rail cars get a full cleaning they are getting a 100% quality control check by supervision.

What Our Customers can do

At this point we continue to ask our riders to continue to stay educated on the status of this situation on a regular basis. As mentioned above, the CDC, Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Philadelphia Department of Health have excellent information on their websites and continue to be the best sources for education and awareness - www.cdc.gov; https://www.health.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspx; https://www.phila.gov/departments/department-of-public-health/

We also ask everyone to continue to follow good hygiene practices

- Cover coughs or sneezes with your elbow. Do not use your hands!

- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

- Soap and water should be your primary source of washing. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

- Clean surfaces frequently, including countertops, light switches, cell phones, remotes, and other frequently touched items.


If you believe you are experiencing symptoms see your personal physician. Physicians know how to determine if individuals meet the risk classifications for the virus and the required testing and assessment protocols.
