A Transit Police Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of SEPTA customers, staff and property throughout the areas it serves. Officers must enforce all local, state and federal laws on and around the transit system.
SEPTA recruits highly-qualified individuals who meet or exceed these qualifications:
A U.S. Citizen at least 21 years of age or older
Have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED
Hold a valid driver's license
Can successfully complete a pre-employment written examination
Pass an extensive background investigation, including psychological and polygraph exam
Pass a complete medical examination and substance abuse screening
Meet or exceed the Department's physical fitness standards (some tests are extremely challenging)
The SEPTA Police Department offers competitive benefits and salary packages. Successful candidates will attend an accredited municipal police officer's training course (PA Act 120) immediately upon hire. All candidates must complete the police academy training in order to be commissioned as a Transit Police Officer.
The criteria for completion of the police academy are standardized by the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC).
