SEPTA Regional Railroad 150 Mile Catenary Replacement

In-house forces reached a major milestone in March 2015 as part of a program that started in 2000 to replace 150 miles of Regional Rail catenary wire. The program has helped to grow Regional Rail ridership over the last 15 years and has significantly reduced power related failures by 95%.


- Catenary wire was replaced along 10 Regional Rail lines and at 2 stations

- Work completed on the following Regional Rail Lines:

  • West Trenton
  • Mainline North (Wayne Junction to Lansdale)
  • Warminster
  • Doylestown
  • Cynwyd

- Partial replacement work completed on:

  • Chestnut Hill East
  • Airport
  • Fox Chase
  • Norristown (Currently being replaced)
  • Media-Elwyn (Currently being replaced)

- Program work includes the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line Catenary Replacement Program (Rebuilding for the Future Power Infrastructure Program)

- 150th mile located at Wallingford Station (Media/Elwyn Line)
