THE NUMBERS TELL THE STORY!
It's been a little over three years (July 2004) since SEPTA bus routes became 100% accessible to all customers. Riding habits changed for over 1,200 (1,219) CCT Connect customers in wheelchairs and scooters who had conditional eligibility.

The Americans With Disability Act (ADA) says if a person can functionally use fixed route service (i.e. a bus), and the service is accessible to/for persons with disabilities, they must use fixed route buses. As of September 1, 2007, the number of CCT Connect customers in wheelchairs and scooters with conditional eligibility has grown to nearly 1,800 (1,765).
As the accompanying table indicates, SEPTA operators are successfully boarding customers in mobility devices at a steadily, if not phenomenal, increasing pace. The table here presents boardings reported to the Control Center by Operators. Since "good-weather months" usually encourages riders to "get out more" the table reflects comparisons of June through September 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. It's another indication that conditional eligibility is working and that customers are using SEPTA's fixed-route services to its fullest extent. |
