Wire Problems on Wednesday, May 17, 2017

This morning, a failure in the overhead wires south of Jenkintown Station created train delays and cancellations on Lansdale/Doylestown, Warminster, and West Trenton Lines with related service delays and cancellations on the Airport, Wilmington/Newark, Media/Elwyn, and Paoli/Thorndale Lines. The problem occurred near where the wire incident happened in December of last year.

No trains were disabled in the area of the wire problems, but customers traveling during the rush this morning experienced significant delays and major inconveniences including those riders from Elkins Park and Melrose Park who had to use shuttle bus service to connect with Regional Rail service at Fern Rock Station. Service was restored shortly after 12 noon, with some residual delays, in time for the PM travel rush.

In addition to SEPTA Power forces and our wire train being deployed to complete the immediate wire repairs, the original design consultant was out on-site today to investigate the problem as it was occurring. Taking the information gathered this morning, they are now developing a catenary wire configuration redesign plan for this section of track. Once completed and approved, SEPTA will expedite the replacement work.

We apologize for the delays and disruption to the morning commute for any Regional Rail customer impacted by this wire problem and we will continue to work to make your service safe and reliable.
