Fares On Regional Rail, fares are determined by zones based on distance from Center City Philadelphia. There are six zones (1-6) that change every five to seven miles. Zone information is published on Regional Rail timetables next to the name of each station. In addition, Regional Rail trains are designated as peak and non-peak as shown by the shaded areas in the public timetables. Peak fares apply during these times; off-peak fares apply all other times, including weekends and major holidays.
Riders can use tickets, TrailPass, TransPass, or cash to pay their fare on Regional Rail. Conductors will make change, however, the On-Board rate will apply to fares purchased on board a train even if there is an open ticket office at the boarding station. Tokens cannot be used on Regional Rail. Frequent Regional Rail riders should use a TrailPass, which are good for unlimited rides on trains up to and including the zone number indicated on the pass.
